How to Add, Multiply, or Round a Whole Range in Excel at Once
You want to bump a price column by 5%, or round a range to 2 decimals — without a helper column and a paste-special dance. Here's the clunky built-in way, and a one-click way that also does percent and rounding.
Last updated: August 2026
| Before | After (+5%) | |
|---|---|---|
| 10.00 | → | 10.50 |
| 19.99 | → | 20.99 |
| 4.00 | → | 4.20 |
Method 1 — Paste Special with an operation
- Put the operand — say
5— in a spare cell and copy it. - Select your range, then Paste Special and choose Add, Subtract, Multiply, or Divide.
- The catch: the operand must be a whole number, and there's no percent, no round, and no absolute or negate.
Method 2 — a helper column
Write =A2*1.05 down a spare column, copy it, then Paste Special > Values back over the originals and delete the helper. It works, but it's four steps for a change you'll want to make again next week.
The 1-click way — Tellsheet's Batch Calculate
Select the range and run Batch Calculate. Pick one operation — Add, Subtract, Multiply by, Divide by, Change by percent, Round to N decimals, Absolute value, or Negate — type the value, and it rewrites every number in place. Every change previews first, text cells are left untouched, and it all runs on your computer. Pairs with Round Numbers and Calculate Percentage Change.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a number to a whole column at once?
Paste Special ▸ Add works for plain numbers; Batch Calculate does that plus percent, round, absolute, and negate, in place with a preview.
How do I raise a price column by a percentage?
Use Change by percent — enter 5 and every value rises 5%. Paste Special can't do percent directly.
Does it change my headings or text?
No — only real numbers in the selection are touched; text and blanks are left alone.
Can I round a whole range in one go?
Yes — pick Round to N decimals and set the number of places; it rounds the real values across the selection.
